    Portable Soldering Tools

Have either of you tried the Bernzomatic Detail Pen Torch or Ryobi USB Lithium Soldering Pen for soldering RC battery and motor wires? Both of these options have my intrigued, but I am not sure either gets and stays hot enough to solder thicker RC wires. I am looking for something I can keep...

Quicrun 860 - wiring and setup

I'm confused about how to set up my QR 860 ESC. This is part of a Traxxas 2.5 electric conversion where I'm installing a 775 motor. I really just need a buddy check that what I'm assuming, and what I need to do is correct. This ESC has six wires for hook ups, plus a switch and the connector to...

the do and don't of fabrication

New to this internet forum stuff so I might not post in the right location but here it goes. I've had real nice 4x4 rc trucks back in the late 80's but a lot has changed. First thing I noticed is the body is very flimsy unlike the 80's bodies. The suspension has came a long way. I'm in the...

Electronics Soldering temperatures... 60/40 vs. "lead free"... what to use?

OK, For those of us that use a soldering station (versus a soldering gun or pencil/iron), what temps to use? For my typical 1/16" (~1.5mm) 60/40 (tin/lead) rosin core solder, ~360*F (~177*C) seems to work well (Wiki link shows 370*F or ~188*C for 60/40 solder). I also have Castle Creations...

At what temp does brakeline glow red?

I am going to be using a soldering iron to try and attach some piano wire to part of a cage I am building and I need to know what temp to set my soldering iron to get the metal hot enough to fuse like it would if I was using a torch with brakeline. What would you guys recommend? I will still be...

    Soldering batteries and esc'

I've soldered quite a bit and I still have a hard time getting a good clean solder. I'm looking to get some tips on what I might be doing wrong. It seems like on the esc's battery mounts the solder doesn't connect to the wire as it should. I'm using a welder soldering gun could it be that I need...
