Axial 1/18 Yeti (and Yeti Score)

I mean its on their facebook page.

Fine, Ill do it.

"An exciting new contender in the smaller scale RC world was announced right before the weekend, and we could´t resist the urge to instantly overpower it! Axial Racing's BRAND NEW Yeti JR. got the Castle treatment by installing a Mamba Micro X brushless system, adding a lot of spice in a small size!

Our range of 1/18th scale products can be found by following this link: http://www.castlecreations.com/en/mamba-micro-x

*Note that use of a specific pinion, for example the LOSB1261, is required for a proper installation"

Edit, they used the 4,100 for first tests.

Mine showed up last night (been lurking on here a while). Initial thoughts:

1. It seems pretty sturdy. Suspension is well sorted for the price. I'm dubious as to the durability of the rear driveshaft / exposed bearing.

2. On 2S is has enough go for my purposes.

3. 2nd'ing the issue with the steering returning to center. It mostly doesn't...

4. When I started fiddling with the settings (first switch to LiPo, then went to turn on the drag brake) the receiver stopped responding. Working with Axial customer support now to sort it out (annoying to have an issue, but they are responding promptly to my questions).

All in all, I think it'll be a great little truck! It'll be getting a 3D printed Cherokee (XJ) body soon!

No problem. There were no videos showing the top speed without slow motion and dubstep, so I made one. Quick, simple, done. I thought the same thing about the power / speed. As easy as it traction rolls, any more than this on 2S is going to be a real handful. I really like it the way it is on 2S and it should run for 40 minutes or more on a 2200 mAh pack. Gonna need a better servo as soon as possible though. Can't wait to get it into my crawler course when I get home.

Did anybody order the SCORE/Trophy Truck version yet? Since I can't swing a Baja Rey right now, this little guy might be the backyard solution! I've personally had better luck with open wheeled 1/18 scale vehicles simply because the full bodied ones throw their roost inside the body which inevitably finds its way to/through the spur/pinion. I'm hoping the forward mounted spur and cover are enough to do the trick. On the flip side, I do tend to break fewer chassis parts on the full bodied cars (of any scale.) Also, are the TT tires as tall as the RR tires? I still need to wait to see what Santa brings, but I feel like there's money burning a hole in my pocket!

Edit: looks like the TT tires are 68x28 and the RR tires are 82x34

Edit again: 15t pinion on the TT, 10T on the RR, so even with the shorter tires, the TT should be faster out of the box.

what's the size of the stock servo?

Thanks a lot Captain. I watched your video and just ordered one. Wife's going to be pissed but I'll wrap it and say its for my 2 year old daughter from Santa.

I have 2 2200 2s batteries that will be perfect for it.
Any thoughts on the servo? I'm ok with upgrading right off the bat.
You think any Mini will work?

. Gonna need a better servo as soon as possible though.

I would suggest checking out the servo saver first. 1/18 dromida had a ton of issues with centering and they were mostly related to a poor saver design that woundnt return to center. tighen up that setup, then if you kill the servo you will know its time for a new servo. that metal gear tactic should be miles ahead of the stock dromida one im used to in that scale.

Axial didn't splurge on the servo but that is to be expected. TSX106 Micro servo.
TowerHobbies.com | Tactic TSX106 Micro Servo High Speed with 25T Adapter
It doesn't say the dimensions but the other micro Tactic servos are all 23X12X27
Tactic Servos

This might be some option?
TowerHobbies.com | Hitec HS-5070MH Digital Ultra-Torque Feather Servo
It's just slightly bigger 23.6X11.6X29

Savox SH0256 Micro Digital Servo

Savox SH0254 Micro Digital Servo

Make perfect stocking stuffers

I wonder if there is room to fit a bigger Mini servo. I run the savox micro on my 1/24 losi and that has under 2" tires

Yeah a slightly bigger servo will be great, I hope this one fits:
Savox SW0250MG Waterproof Digital Micro Servo (29.5 x 14.0 x 32.5mm)
...may be a little too much, or the dremel may help... :ror:

I tightened up the servo saver but it didn't help. That servo just doesn't center well, so it's out.

Two screws on the bottom, 4 screws to fold the battery box and body out of the way. That allows access to the one screw on the back of the ESC/RX/Servo unit. The servo is easily swapped at this point. I should have taken some pics but didn't, sorry. Hitec HS-65MG dropped right in. They included 21T, 23T, 24T and 25T servo saver adapters. Notice anything missing there? Yep, the 22T for Hitecs. Used a standard horn instead for now. I'll look for a Kimbrough at the LHS's on Friday. Returns to center every time now.

The steering bellcrank is actually one of the least sloppy systems I've seen in a 1/18 and the ball cups are strong too. They did a pretty good job up there.

Been running it around the yard and in the house chasing cats with it. Fun little Yeti!

I gave in, ordered one for my son for xmas, Thanks Axial, Xmas Shopping was all done and the you have to come out with this. I will have to test it, drive it, jump it, make sure its ok before you know. Don't want to give something questionable..

Anybody got max. internal size of the battery Tray? What's the largest 2S anyones fitted in? I've got one on order but shipping to NZ takes ages and I'd love to have some small 2S batteries waiting for it.... any help would be appreciated. What exact battery are people running? Thanks guys?
