| Scale Tuff Truck Challenge!
James and I have been looking for something new and different to do in the RC World and we came across some people in Ohio that are organizing a RC Top Truck Challenge. After looking at what they are doing we felt that we had enough talented people here in New Mexico to organize the same type of event. We know that most do not have RC Vehicles that are equipped to compete in an event like this at the moment, and with the economy being as it we have decided to give some time to build a truck for the event. We are going to organize this as a two day event, so clear your schedule for August 15, 16, 2009. These rules are intended to create a scale class based on the 1:1 Top Truck Challenge Competitions. You can see examples of these 1:1 trucks in photos at the bottom of this post. Please keep these vehicles in mind when modifying or creating your truck for this event. If your vehicle does not resemble a truck that would compete in this event please understand you have a good chance at a DQ. If after reading the vehicle Specifications & Event Rules you feel the need to ask questions, we ask that you do so here in this thread. It would also be nice to watch you build your vehicle here n the web as well. Vehicle Specifications & Event Rules This will be an all electric event, so we will pass on the Nitro burners. Please be advised items may change, this is the first time we have held an event like this. We will let you know as things change, so please be patient. Anything that you see in Italics is a change we have made since opened the thread. If you feel that your vehicle is questionable, please post photos here in this thread. That way everyone can see what will and will not be considered, and everyone who plans to join us will have a voice in each decision. But the event organizer's have the finial word. – Maximum rim diameter is 24mm as long as it looks scale.correction the wheel width is a 24mm,the hight is about 2.5 – Tire diameter is limited to 5.5 Inches. As long as you achieve a scale appearance. – Chassis must be a replication of a 1:1 truck chassis. Ladder frame chassis, Tamiya Pajero, and Hummer Kits are welcome. – Wheelbase is not limited but must resemble proportions from a 1:1 vehicle. As well as fit inside the fender well of the body of your choice. – Steel or Brass roll cages or a Exo Skeletons are required and must maintain the shape the the body you choose. The Cage must be constructed of steel. Correction We are going to allow any cage plastic or otherwise. Just build a truck for this fun event! – Interiors must have look as though you could get in and drive it. – Vehicles must be shaft driven via a single chassis mounted transmission. (Motor on axle setups will be disqualified) – Rear steering and dig are both legal. Events Mud Bog - Track dimensions are 5’ wide by 10’ long. - Each vehicle will have 3 minutes to complete the track. - Truck obtaining furthest distance from starting point will be the winner. - If two or more vehicles complete the entire length of the track then the scoring will be determined by fastest completion time. - Distance or time will be used to score remaining vehicles Hill Climb - Gate markers will be used to lay out a course. Gate marker spacing is 20”. - 5 second penalty for hitting a gate marker. Gate markers are always live. - Truck to make it furthest up the hill in 1 minute wins. - Distance or time will be used to score remaining vehicles.. - If two or more trucks complete the hill then the fastest completion time will determine winner. Obstacle Course - Gate markers using 20” spacing will be used to create a course that uses jumps, hills, water crossings etc… Boundary markers can be used as needed. - 5 second penalty for hitting a gate marker. Gate markers are always live. - Fastest truck to complete the course wins. - Time will be used to place remaining trucks. Truck Tug a War - Track dimensions are 5’ wide by 10' long - Two vehicles will be tied together via a Scale Chain - A line will be drawn between the two trucks as well as on the Scale Chain. - The first truck to pull the competitors rear tires over the center line will be declared the winner. - The winners of each Tug a War will face each other until one truck comes out as the last truck standing. Tank Trap - Technical course created using extreme off camber obstacles, elevation changes and the occasional water hole. - Gate markers may be used to clarify course layout. - 5 second time penalty for touching a gate marker. - Fastest truck to complete the course wins. - 5 minute time limit. - Trucks exceeding 5 minutes receive 0 points. Event Scoring Each event will be scored separately, and a winner will be determined by who won the most of the individual events. Prizes will be posted as we get closer to the date of the event. GREAT IDEA , but............. how many rigs in the 2009 line up are running 25" wheels and 60" tires. I really like the idea , but I just dont agree with the wheel/tire max rule , I dont think they would be very scale @ 1:10 , I guess if your at 1:8 scale....... So is it a 1:8 scale event ? The first thing I thought of was , just go buy a traxxis Summit and put a metal rollcage on it. Awaiting answers before I procede. Dwane |

| Please note that we have made a few changes in the rules! This is a new thing that we are doing so please be patient! I figure we will have to respond to every question. Even when I think they are messing around, it sucks to ask a question and have no response. If you have a question please let me know! |

I understand what you are saying I am pretty much in the same boat. But if you look around on this website you will find all sorts of how to articles on building your own cage. I am in California for training but will be home Friday and will post up a how to link on Friday...................You know if I ask real nice perhaps I can talk someone who knows how to braze into a tech session on a Sunday sometime soon. Anyone up for something like this. Hey James, are you up for teaching a few of us how to braze up our own cage!

I won't get into lengthy details but you guys know that you can braze brass REALLY easily right? It's definitely not as strong as steel but maybe you guys could change your rules to just say a metal cage? You can get solid brass rod that will bend nicely with tight radius' and braze it with normal rosin core solder and a propane torch. It's pretty strong when it's all together. I'm sure with some harsh enough tumbles it could bend. I just did this bed on my Yota in a few hours with $14 worth of brass and bass wood from the LHS. THe only thing I can say is you don't have to get the brass that hot. A few quick passes with the torch will heat it up enough. Just takes a little practice. |

| Yes, do you see a problem with this? This is still fresh enough that we can make changes if needed.
