Area BFE, in Moab, Utah was the site of the first annual USRCCA Nationals this past weekend. This event brought together 70 of the best Radio Control crawlers from across the country, in total 17 different states were represented, from Connecticut to Hawaii. Not only was this event a chance to find out who exactly is the best in the country, but it was also a great opportunity to get together with old friends, and make a ton of new ones. I personally can't think of a better place to gp crawling than Moab.

We arrived at the event site friday afternoon (9/8/06) and were pleasantly surprised to see people had found the event site and were already trying to figure out what the traction and terrain was going to be like. Bastard, Badger, and I immediately spotted the area we wanted to setup the courses and set it up as a dead zone, meaning no one could crawl in that area. We didn't want anyone that was competing to have a chance to prerun the courses.

We got to work picking out the lines, and by the time the sun was going down we had laid out some pretty evil courses.

After we got the courses all dialed in we went and met up with a big group of guys at Eddie McStiff's for a tasty dinner, and a few drinks.

The party was then moved to the SERCRC condo in the Rim Village on the south end of town. Some guys choose to use this time to rebuild their crawlers, others decided it was time to party, I wasn't competing so I knew what I had to do.

Saturday morning it was time for the comp. We got up at 0500 and were out at the event site setting up the tent while the sun was coming up on what was sure to be a great day of competition.

Around 0700 the competitors began to line up to get their rigs tech'd and ready to go. Tech went very smooth, before we left town I had Bastard make a gauge so I could measure wheelbase and width of the 2.2 rigs. Surprisingly I had to fail about 10 of the 2.2 rigs due to too long of a wheelbase. Remember the USRCCA rules state that a 2.2 class rig can have no longer than a 12.5" wheelbase. All of those rigs were put within specs before the competition started, and sunday before the finals the top 5 were rechecked before they could run.

As the drivers lined up to start their courses we loaded up the raffle table. Every entry was given 2 tickets. We had 70 entry's and 103 great prizes. Throughout the day we raffled off 3 items every 15 minutes, then at the end of the day we still had a huge pile and everyone gathered around while we gave away everything that was left.
